Cards, anyone?

I ordered four decks of the previously mentioned Desjgn Cards, in Gray Moonstone, Black Opal, Green Emerald, and Orange Coral. I'm wishing I'd gone for some Purple Spinel and Brown Topaz as well, but maybe in the future... because the current six decks of plastic playing cards in the house is not enough should I ever decide to open a casino in my so-uncluttered basement.

Anyway, for the first two days of his life Kiernan had no name. This was because Lara and I couldn't decide between the names Kiernan and Quinn. Now we're pretty sure of the names of both of the upcoming twins, but Quinn fell off the list of favourites long ago isn't even an option for either the boy or the girl.

The other day Lara casually mentions "Too bad we don't like the name Quinn anymore."
"Why's that?" I asked.
"Kiernan, Quinn, and Juliette - K Q J"
Blank stare from me.
"King Queen Jack?" she offered.
"I understand that. I was just thinking how I suddenly like the name Quinn again."

Unfortunately it's apparently not an option anymore.

Tired yet awesome

It's 1:30am and I've been playing poker since nine... I just came in second place in the Ante Up Intercontinental Poker Series (AIPS)... 168 (skilled as hell) competitors... My King-Ten of hearts got stabbed by a rivered 5 which paired the other guy's K5, netting me $130... so basically I've got all the future monthly AIPS events paid for in advance... you know, when the twins are sleeping...

Oops, thanks for doubling me up, seeya!

So I plop $10 onto the virtual table for a cash game of Limit Omaha Poker, and in my first hand I win a big pot. I lose a small hand, then win another big hand, then win a small hand. It is then that I notice I have $20 after five minutes of play, which is strange for a 10¢/25¢ game. I double checked, and yes, I had accidentally sat down at a 50¢/$1 table, and the big hands I'd won weren't all that big in comparison. I quickly left the game before my luck spiraled downward.

Weekly Wednesday #33

Weekly Link:
http://www.maninthedark.com/ Try clicking to duplicate... then clicking while it's degenerating to create weirdness... or move it to the corner of the screen, click once, then double click fast in the opposite corner for even more weirdness... uh, yeah, I don't know either.

Weekly Video:

Weekly Kiernan:
Some days you can get Kiernan to eat everything on his plate by pretending each forkful is an animal or person. His favourites are giraffes, elephants, and kings.

Weekly Workplace:
Email from Information Services at the hospital, regarding the expansion of the wireless network and how to tell if it has been completed in :
"If you are wondering if expansion in your area has been completed, simply look at the ceiling in the main hallways. If you see a cable hanging out, it is not complete. If you see a white Star Wars like spaceship, it is complete."
You would think the IS team were geeks or something...

Weekly WTF:
The poker site I play on stopped running the turbo tournament cash cow that fit perfectly into my schedule. I could win around $100 in 75 minutes some days. Last night I snagged a first place victory of $100 and it took me TWO. AND A HALF. HOURS.

That damn photographer jumped out the kitchen window before the caffeine kicked in and I noticed him standing there.

Best Weekly Workplace:
T-minus two days until I will be the top of the knowledge chain in the software I learned only three months ago... Please do not worship the guru (but bring him muffins)!

Best Weekly WTF:
My initially planned WTF was "The flop was Q6A. I had Q4. You checked. I bet five times the big blind and you folded. But then you showed your hand, and it was A6?!" but then my WTF took a better turn.

You see, I don't spend my money on much these days other than online poker. I don't put that much in each month, but I can't seem to build a bankroll. So, after my latest Pokerstars account went bust, I decided to take advantage of an offer I'd heard about. Basically, through a referral system, you sign up to one of five or six poker sites, fulfill the site requirements, and you get two good books and three not-so-popular books from 2plus2 publishing. I researched, and found the easiest requirements were as follows:

1. Deposit $50.
2. Play one cash game.
3. Wait for the invite to choose your books.

After step 3, I could withdraw my cash and put it back into Pokerstars. So on Saturday, I signed up.

Of course, my attitude became "Hey, I'm getting $100 worth of books, I may as well play more than the single game." The site seemed full of European players, and it takes ages to find a game to play, but for some reason I started kicking their asses. I discovered the $5.50 tables paid $9 for second place and $21 for first, and soon I was actually up by half my initial deposit. Are Europeans not as into poker as North Americans?

Then it hit me - These people are in time zones 6-8 hours ahead. I'm catching the people who may be pulling all-nighters, grinding away at the tables.

Exhausted Poker Degenerates! I have an edge!

This evening the tables were pretty empty as usual, and after busting out in last place of a 6-seated sit'n'go, I glanced into the Tournament area and noticed a 5.50 buy-in game starting in 12 minutes. Only a few people had signed up, so I figured why not. By the time the game started, there were 96 people with the top ten positions getting paid out.

I actually made the final table.

I actually became the chip leader with $45,000 in chips. Second place had $21,000.

I actually made a mistake with 4 people left (hey, 4th place got $46, which was pretty good, so why not push all in) and ended up with $3000 in chips when someone called and won.

I actually doubled up. Twice. Soon I was chip leader again with $75K.

Then I won first place and took down $169.50.

Okay, no more poker talk... until next time I kick European ass.
